Harvest time is the best time

I am super excited to have the holidays just around the corner.  I have slowly started to decorate my house with spider webs on mirrors, pumpkins, autumn leaves, cinnamon brooms, and arrow wheat.

This time of year you begin to see the stores gear up for the holidays with harvest, Halloween and Christmas decorations.  I personally love to see the harvest items, they just make me want to buy them all and stay at home.  There is something about those orange, yellow, red tones that remind me of home snuggled up with a warm drink.

Of course Florida is still warm and there is no need for jackets and boots just yet.  So, I have unpacked all of my sweaters and have begun wearing them, yes, even in this 80-degree weather.

There is still so much more decorating I would like to do and I am also not posting but I wanted to show you how I’m starting.

Getting Better

I’ve been neglecting this poor little blog these past few days because I have not been feeling so well.

This week I realized I needed to get better at listening to people … not hearing them, but actually listening.  Stop and listen to what people are saying, WITHOUT INTERRUPTING!

“Hi my name is Hizles and I interrupt.”

I am guilty of cutting people off, I think it’s just me being eager to let people know, “hey! I know what you mean!”

I suppose the best step in any problem is to acknowledge and accept that you have that problem.  Today I took my first step and actually waited as my inner voice impatiently waited to cut someone off mid sentence.  Oh my gosh was it hard for me but I am proud to say I did it.

These past two weeks have been very educational for me.  I took a hard look at myself to acknowledge what my flaws are … I’m sure I still have many but I recognize that I am not perfect, and will never be.  What defines perfect?  Someone else’s expectations of me? From here going forward, I am this person, with defects, but trying to be better, everyday trying to be better..  Not for someone else but for myself.  It is true that people change but I am trying to change for the better.

So going forward, I will do my best, my very best, to listen and not just hear … actually listen.

Got NAKED!

So before you start having dirty thoughts ... I'm talking about make-up ...

This is the much talked about Naked Palette by Urban Decay.  From the moment I saw this, I knew it had to be mine.  One of the reasons I had to have it was because I am all about neutrals and naturals.

While at Sephora a few months back, perhaps right before this palette became such a big hit, I saw this palette reviewed on YouTube and made note to myself to check it out next time I was at my local Sephora.  I honestly didn’t think this palette would sell so well only because let’s face it, it’s a bunch of browns and neutral tones, who would want that but me?  While I was at the mall I popped on into Sephora but they did not have it out on display at that time.  I asked one of the clerks if she had received it yet.  Lo and behold, that puppy was sitting all by his lonesome in a drawer (you know, where they have all the stock, underneath the display) and she only had two.  I jumped at the opportunity and took one home with me.

Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar

Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse

(Darkhorse) Toasted, Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal
I just love this palette!  I can’t say much more than that.  What’s not to love?  You can get several day looks and also work a night look out of their darker shades.  The palette has matte, frost, luster, and sheen colors.  This palette also comes with their well-liked Primer Potion, and if you use eye shadow you know how important it is to use a primer – and this one is awesome.  Besides the primer you also get half sizes of another one of their popular items, 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero – black and Whisky - warm brown.  This is my second palette from Urban Decay, my first was the Alice in Wonderland (which I also like but feel that the colors in that palette are way too colorful for everyday – just my personal view ladies) and I have worn it probably 5 times since I’ve had it.  On the other hand, this palette is so precious that I use it but try to save as much of it as possible.  Currently all the Sephora stores I have visited and the Urban Decay website are sold out on this palette, so glad I bought it when I did.  =)

RED

Magazines everywhere have models with red lips and classic retro eyes posing for clothes you know you can’t wear out in real life unless it’s to a Halloween Party.  So with that as my inspiration I gave the red lip a shot.

L'Oreal Infallible LipColour 306 Target Red

As I have mentioned before I absolutely love a nude, pink, coral lips but when I put this color on my lip I instantly felt like a glam chic.  What is it about red that just makes women feel sexier and more confident?  At least for me it does.  Not to mention the fact that your teeth look a whole lot whiter with red lips.

For me, I prefer a simple eye with a bright bold lip, in this case red! A lined eye, a couple of swipes of mascara, subtle blush and big red lips … in my case, small smiling red lips. Heheheheh…

it's the simple things

The weather is definitely starting to cool down here in Florida but it is still nowheres near feeling like fall.  Days are anywhere from 88-92 degrees with morning about 80, what a way to start off the morning.  To welcome in the beautiful weather I went out for a bike ride and felt the wind in my hair and let me tell you … I liked it.  It has been so long since I rode a bike that I wobbled around my first few attempts before the feeling came back.  It’s just the simple things that make me smile at times.  I felt like a kid again, riding my bike and noticed something funny, I could not stop having a smile on my face while riding.  Riding along some of my favorite people enjoying the view and the nice weather, trying to hold hands as we ride (not easy, especially if it’s been awhile), it was a wonderful day.
